Knights Return to Win Column With Victory Over Broncos

North Platte, Neb. – Five players finish in double-digits as Knights defeat Hastings College JV, 73-62, on Tuesday night.

Nevaeh Golden led the Knights with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, while Kateria Gooden added 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Nariah Golden chipped in 12 points, while Jada Thompson and Zaily Mazarin each added 10 points apiece.

Hastings held a 7-6 edge at the media timeout in the first quarter. A 6-0 spurt behind four points from Sa’Naii May stretched the Knights lead to 12-7 with 2:15 to play. The Broncos rallied with their own run to knot the game up at 12-12 on a three by Stella Heapy.

A layup from May triggered a 9-3 run that extended into the early moments of the second quarter. The black and gold continued to maintain control in the final minutes to take a 40-28 lead into the halftime break.

Back and forth basketball continued into the third quarter, as the Knights continued to hold a double-digit lead. Hastings trimmed the margin to 54-44, but an 10-2 run pushed the margin to 64-46 with 9:14 remaining in the fourth.

A late rally dipped the margin to 71-62 inside two minutes to play, but North Platte closed the game out on a pair of free throws by Nariah Golden.

Knights (7-6) return to road action on Friday against Kansas City Kansas Community College. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley in Kansas City, Mo.
