Hannah Kono closed out her first tournament as a Husker with a top-20 individual finish to lead the Nebraska women’s golf team at the Badger Invitational in Verona, Wis., on Tuesday.
Kono, a sophomore from Enkoping, Sweden, closed the 54-hole event in a tie for 18th at 224 (+8), including a final-round 76 on the par-72, 6,306-yard layout at the University Ridge Golf Club.
Sophomore Arden Louchheim (Park City, Utah) put up Nebraska’s best round on Tuesday with a 73 (+1), climbing nine spots into a tie for 35th at 229 (+13) in the final standings.
Senior Miu Takahashi (Nasu-machi, Japan) contributed NU’s second-best round with a 74 (+2) to move up 11 spots into a tie for 39th at 231 (+15).
Redshirt sophomore Lauren Thiele (Wahoo, Neb.) pitched in Nebraska’s final score in the five-count-four scoring format with an 80 to close in a tie for 59th at 238 (+22) in the 75-player field.
Fifth-year senior Andrea Velez (Pereira, Colombia) rounded out the Husker lineup with an 82 on Tuesday while finishing in a tie for 56th at 236 (+20).
Redshirt sophomore Symran Shah (Carrollton, Texas), who was competing as an individual outside Nebraska’s lineup, closed out her tournament in a tie for 54th at 235 (+19) with a final-round 78 (+6).
As a team, Nebraska finished 11th in a 13-team field at 918 (+54). Delaware (886, +22) claimed a seven-stroke win over Sam Houston State (893, +29) for the team title, while UTSA took third at 895 (+31).
Sam Houston State’s Grace Jin earned medalist honors with a four-under-par 212 over 54 holes, one shot ahead of runner-up Leonor Medeiros (213) from South Florida.
Nebraska returns to action at the Red Raider Invitational in Lubbock, Texas (Sept. 24-25).
