Grand Island, NE – The 97th annual Aksarben Stock Show is set to take place this week, running from September 26 to 29 at Fonner Park. Organizers say this year’s show promises to continue its tradition of showcasing the finest livestock, with participants from across the region, representing 14 different states.
“Grand Island should feel incredibly proud to host a regional livestock show like this one. Kids ages 9-19 years prep their animals all year long to get a shot at the Purple Banner Knight, formally known as the Grand Drive,” said Vaughn Sievers, Agriculture Director.
Last year, the Aksarben Stock Show saw remarkable attendance, with more than 40,000 guests and over 1,300 head of livestock, including goats, pigs, cattle, poultry, and sheep. The event, known for its deep roots in Nebraska’s agricultural heritage, provides young exhibitors with opportunities to demonstrate their skills and hard work in animal husbandry.
Executive Director Jaime Parr says this event is much more than a livestock show.
“Top-tier livestock and showmanship will certainly fill our campus this week, but so will a number of exhibitor activities ranging from Quiz Bowl to study hall, Challenge interviews to the Purple Banner Knight reception and event, the High School and College Judging Contests, and designated areas for some outdoor fun that offers competitors a break from the show ring,” said Parr.
As one of the largest stock shows in the region, the event attracts not only local participants but also national attention, making it a highlight of the year for agricultural enthusiasts and Nebraskan families alike.
The Aksarben Stock Show is free for spectators to attend with a variety of food, shopping and air-conditioned show rings to enjoy on the property.
