Minto Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

huskers-2
After his second career dual and a top-10 upset win, Christopher Minto (165) was named Big Ten Wrestling’s Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Thursday morning. Minto, a redshirt freshman, is the third Husker to garner a weekly conference honor, and did so with his decision win over Minnesota’s No. 9 Andrew Sparks.
The unranked wrestler at 165 helped the Big Red start off conference duals with a win, and tallied his 13th win of the season. The upset was Minto’s second time in his career toppling a ranked opponent, and landed him rankings in the OpenMat, Flo and Win polls.
Minto is 13-1 on the season, and opened the year going 3-0 to share the Navy Classic 165 title with teammate Bubba Wilson.
The last time three Husker wrestlers were honored in weekly awards from the conference was in the 2018-19 season.

Minto and the Huskers continue Big Ten competition on Friday, Jan. 17, hosting No. 1 Penn State. The dual is set to begin at 8 p.m. (CT) and will be televised on BTN. Tickets for the top-10 matchup can be purchased at huskers.com/tickets.
