The No. 10 Nebraska rifle team notched a team aggregate score of 4,706 on Saturday at the Roger Withrow Invitational.
NU competed alongside UAB (4,559), No. 14 Jacksonville State (4,670) and No. 19 North Georgia (4,618). The Big Red will await scores from No. 1 Kentucky, No. 5 Murray State and No. 10 Memphis, as those schools compete Sunday to determine the Huskers’ finish. Nebraska’s final standing will be posted on Huskers.com as soon as results are final.
Junior captain Emma Rhode notched a 595 in the smallbore and a 598 in the air rifle for an aggregate score of 1,193, the highest aggregate score in program history. Rhode’s score broke the score of Cecelia Ossi, who registered a 1,191 during the 2022-23 season. Rhode’s smallbore score is the third-highest score in school history and her air rifle score ties the highest total in school history.
“It’s been nice to get back into the groove of practice and matches these last few weeks,” Rhode said. “I’m happy with how comfortable I felt in today’s match and was glad to see my progress in practice transfer into a match setting. Overall, I’m looking forward to this spring season and to what the team can do!”
The Huskers notched a team score of 2,338 in the smallbore, led by Rhode with her 595. Camilla Johannessen posted a 582, and Alivia Perkins followed closely with a 581. Maddy Moyer (580) and Grace Corbett (568) rounded out the lineup.
Rhode also led the team in the air rifle, and the Big Red totaled a team score of 2,368. Perkins registered a 596, while Corbett and Moyer followed with scores of 589 and 585, respectively. Johannessen finished out the scoring with a 579.
“Today was a hard-fought battle filled with highs and lows,” head coach Richard Clark said. “I’m happy with the way the girls persevered and worked through the problem areas of the match. It’s something we’ve been working on and it’s starting to show in the way we’re recovering. It was great to see Alivia start the semester strong, shooting one of the highest aggregates of the season. It was fun to watch Emma pick up right weather she left off in the fall, setting the new program individual aggregate record. Overall, it wasn’t a bad start to the spring and we need to continue to grow from here.”
NU will travel to West Point, N.Y., to take on No. 16 Army, UAB and Mt. Aloysius on Saturday, Jan. 25. The match time will be posted on huskers.com as soon as it is determined, and live results can be found here.
