McGowens Selected for Castrol Rising Stars

Former University of Nebraska standout Bryce McGowens will be in action during NBA All-Star Weekend as he was selected for the 2025 Castrol Rising Stars on Tuesday.

Castrol Rising Stars is the annual showcase of top first- and second-year NBA players and NBA G League standouts, and the event will take place on Friday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. (central) from the Chase Center in San Francisco.  The game will be carried on TNT and streamed on TNT Overtime on the NBA App and NBA.com.

This year’s format is a mini tournament with four teams with the winning Rising Stars team competing in the All-Star Game mini-tournament on Sunday, Feb. 16, competing against the NBA All-Stars. The four teams will be determined on Feb. 4.

McGowens, who is on a two-way contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, has appeared in 21 games for the Rip City Remix, averaging 27.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game this season. He ranks second in the G League in scoring. He has also appeared in five games for the Trail Blazers this season.

McGowens spent one season at Nebraska before he was the No. 40 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He was a third-team All-Big Ten performer as a freshman in 2021-22, averaging a team-high 16.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. An eight-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week, McGowens had 11 games with 20-or-more points, including a season-high 29 points against both Sam Houston and Rutgers.
