Lincoln, NE – The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Division of Medicaid and Long-Term Care (MLTC) is seeking individuals to serve on two vital advisory groups – the Medicaid Advisory Committee (MAC) and the Beneficiary Advisory Committee (BAC). These committees provide critical guidance and insight into how Medicaid services are delivered in Nebraska, helping ensure that programs meet the needs of participants, families, providers, and communities.

As part of a final federal rule issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), all states must establish a BAC no later than July 2025. This committee must include current or former Medicaid beneficiaries or their caregivers and is designed to ensure that the voices of those directly impacted by the program are central to Medicaid decision-making.

Medicaid Advisory Committee

The MAC has a broader focus and includes a diverse range of stakeholders, including healthcare providers, community organizations, advocates, and policy experts. The MAC advises the Medicaid agency on overall policy development and program improvements.

Beneficiary Advisory Committee

The BAC is composed exclusively of current or former Medicaid beneficiaries and their caregiver. The BAC will provide specific feedback on the beneficiary experience, including access to care, service quality, and areas for improvement. At least two BAC members will also serve on the MAC, ensuring coordination between the two groups.

Who Should Apply?

MLTC invites applications from individuals representing a wide range of backgrounds and experiences:

  • For the MAC: Healthcare providers, community-based organizations, tribal representatives, public health professionals, social service providers, advocates, and others with insight into the Medicaid system.
  • For the BAC: Current or former Medicaid members, caregivers, or advocates who can share firsthand experiences and help shape how Medicaid can better serve its communities.

Why Serve?

Committee members play a key role in shaping Medicaid policies and priorities. This is a unique opportunity to:

  • Advise on access, equity, and quality of Medicaid services;
  • Strengthen community engagement and collaboration; and
  • Improve the healthcare experience for individuals and families across Nebraska.
