Dec. 5, 2023 (Lincoln, Neb.) — Today, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT)
announced the selection of five proposals for funding in the eighth round of the County Bridge
Match Program (CBMP). The program was created as a result of the 2016 Transportation Innovation
Act (TIA).
The CBMP provides funding to accelerate the repair and replacement of deficient bridges on county
road systems. The $1 million of projects were selected from the next highest ranked project from the
2023 Request for Proposals.
NDOT in cooperation with representatives from Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO),
and Nebraska Association of County Engineers, County Highway Superintendents & County Surveyors
created the guideline for the County Bridge Match Program (CBMP) in 2016. NDOT credits the
partnership with County Bridge Match Working Group, made up of county officials, county engineers
and county highway superintendents, as a major reason for the success of the program.
“NDOT understands the value the County Bridge Match Program provides to local communities,” said
Local Assistance Division Manager Jodi Gibson. “We are actively working on the next phase of the
program, building on the strong success of the first seven rounds which has invested $39 million into
149 projects and generated $87 million in construction activities.”
The CBMP funds 55% of eligible bridge construction costs (up to $250,000 for a single bridge,
$300,000 for a multi-bridge proposal or $750,000 max for a multi-bridge and multi-county proposal)
with counties providing a 45% match.
