August 1 was the deadline for nonpartisan presidential candidates to file for the general election by filing with the Secretary of State an application and a petition signed by at least 2,500 registered voters.

September 9 was the deadline for national political party convention officers to certify to the Secretary of State which candidates for president and vice president are to be voted upon.Robert F. Kennedy Jr. successfully petitioned onto the ballot, but on September 9, 2024, he withdrew his name from the ballot. Shiva Ayyadurai collected enough signatures to appear on the ballot; however, his filing was rejected because he is undisputedly not a natural-born citizen – a requirement to be President of the United States pursuant to Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution.

The Secretary of State must certify candidates and ballot measures on or before September 13.
