Lincoln, NE – The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Office of Economic Assistance (EA), in partnership with the Department of Education (NDE), successfully distributed over $23.9 million to over 121,000 families in need in Nebraska throughout the summer months.
“We are thrilled with the success of the Summer EBT program, which has made a significant impact on our communities,” said Office of Economic Assistance Director, Shannon Grotrian. “This program reflects our dedication to ensuring that every child has access to healthy meals, and we look forward to continuing this important work together.”
Under Governor Pillen’s direction, DHHS developed the “Nebraska Way” of implementing the Summer EBT program. Through the Nebraska Way of multiple touchpoints, DHHS identified and provided additional resources to over 5,000 Nebraska families in need of further assistance such as help with utility payments, healthcare, childcare assistance, and behavioral health resources.
In addition, over 2,000 families were referred to the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) operated by the NDE for additional food resources. A total of 6,651 families were provided meals in 2024 through the SFSP program, a 21% increase from the previous year.
DHHS has opted into the 2025 Summer EBT program.
