The Nebraska women’s tennis team is bringing back two dual wins from its season opener trip to California. The Huskers (2-0) did not drop a single match at UC Riverside (0-2) in Thursday’s double header.
The Big Red claimed six singles matches and five doubles matches to win two back-to-back 4-0 duals against the Highlanders.
Doubles matches for the first dual began with seniors Lucy Loy and Ana Zamburek taking court one, sophomores Emma Rizzetto and Reya Lee Coe on court two, and sophomores Yuzu Miyoshi and Maria Taranova on court three. Wins from No. 2 and No. 3 doubles duos claimed the doubles point for NU. Rizzetto/Coe and Miyoshi/Taranova both won 6-2, leaving court one unfinished at 4-4.
Miyoshi took the first singles win and point, defeating Chloe Vu 6-3, 6-0. Zamburek and Taranova clinched the match with their wins on court one and three respectively. Zamburek took down Olivia McIntosh-Adams 6-4, 6-1, while Taranova bested Niki Shahbazi 6-3, 6-1. The remaining singles matches were left unfinished as the Huskers had tallied a 4-0 dual win.
In the second dual of the day, the Huskers took all three doubles matches. Zamburek and Rizzetto won on court one 6-4, Loy and Coe picked up a 6-3 win, and Rossini and Trigosso persevered to win 7-5.
With the doubles point secured, the Big Red took on singles. Rizzetto was first to tally a singles point for the team, defeating McIntosh-Adams, 6-3, 6-0 on court one. Taranova and Loy locked in the shutout win taking down Ramey Yu and Sam Condevillamar on courts two and four respectively. The Huskers won the second match 4-0 to leave California with a 2-0 spring start.
Taranova, who had a stellar freshman season going 23-8, led NU tallying three wins on the day.
